Foster Vs. Adoption – What’s The Difference?

When the time comes to expand your family, you’ll learn that it’s important to learn what the difference between adoption and fostering.

Adoption and long-term fostering are both situations which can provide a permanent home for a child, but there are some differences. Adoption is a process which legally removes the rights and responsibilities of the child’s birth parent(s), and transfers them to adoptive parent(s). While fostering is a temporary period where you are responsible and providing housing for the child but, do not legally become the child’s parent(s).  

There are many reasons people choose to adopt and/or foster, both are rewarding for both the child and the family.  When it comes time to expand your family, don’t forget about what comes after. Call your lawyer and discuss changes to your estate plan, will if you haven’t created one already.
